Ridgewood Preparatory School was founded in 1948 as a college preparatory school for boys. The school became co-educational in 1952. Ridgewood is approved by the State Department of Education and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Ridgewood's student body is a diverse population drawn from six parishes as well as from around the world. Fifteen percent of our students are foreign citizens coming from nations as far-ranging as Nigeria, Norway, Japan, and Egypt.
The school is organized as a primary school, middle school, and high school. The school year consists of two semesters, each divided into three grading periods.
Ridgewood encourages prospective candidates and their parents to visit the school. Everyday is "Open House" at Ridgewood. Interviews and tours are provided daily throughout the year. To arrange a visit call the school office at (504) 835-2545.
RIDGEWOOD: A SCHOOL IN WHICH TO GROW
Ridgewood is a small school with many of the offerings found in larger schools. Our philosophy is to provide a total education to help form the complete individual.
Each child's education is provided in a safe and caring environment. Our faculty focuses on fulfillment of the following goals:
- Growth in intellectual skills.
- Awareness of physical and social environments.
- Deepened appreciation of aesthetics, philosophy, and religion.
- Responsible participation in home, school, and community.
Preparation for occupational choice, usually at the professional level.
To promote the development of the total person, Ridgewood offers a comprehensive guidance program under the direction of the guidance counselor. Academic, personal, and college counseling is available and age appropriate classes and programs are conducted for all grades.
Does Ridgewood succeed? YOU BET WE DO! Our graduates attend public and private colleges and universities throughout the nation and world and become members of a wide range of professions.
PARENT ORGANIZATION
The Golden Eagle Parent Association (G.E.P.A.), whose active membership represents a large percentage of families, consists of a board and a variety of committees who work at and support the school on a daily basis. Requests for parental involvement in fundraising efforts are limited to two events: an Annual Giving Campaign and a spring social. Monies raised through the efforts of the G.E.P.A. funded the addition and maintenance of a fully equipped computer lab.
